As Senior Target Costing Manager you are responsible for cost calculations and cost optimization for Mobile Access deals, considering the different cost components like hardware, software and services. You work closely together with the sourcing teams and support the sourcing manager in supplier negotiations with technical “hard facts” such as cost per item. On the other hand you work in cross-functional teams from Marketing, Technology, Finance and Sourcing for new product developments, providing them decision help with cost per function information. And, last but not least, systematic collaboration with suppliers is key to spot savings opportunities and to identify cost scaling factors next to being always up-to-date with latest technology. The Senior Target Costing Manager is responsible for:

  • Product cost modelling applying value engineering methods, e.g. reverse engineering of products in our teardown laboratory and use of our industrial cost calculation tools
  • Price, cost and functional benchmarks to derive target prices for supplier negotiations and for budget planning of new product designs
  • Consultation and support of sourcing managers in procurement projects, for example using product or certain product functions cost as a lever in their negotiation strategy
  • Evaluation of cost product change requests or optimization ideas, e.g. calculate cost for a technical product change for a new feature release
  • Close working together with all cross-functional partners. Frequent exchange with internal departments, especially Technology and Sourcing also to share best practice ideas like re-using of a product from country A in country B as both countries have close specifications
  • Lead cost optimization projects such as strategic target costing initiatives and technical workshops with internal partners and/ or suppliers
  • Identification and surveillance of implementation of cost optimization measures from e.g. Design-to-Cost workshops with suppliers to meet target prices by reducing complexity, optimizing specifications etc. during the product development phase
  • Market (trend) analysis for new product functionalities and technologies (e.g. RF, IoT, 5G) by regular supplier and industry meetings (e.g. fares) next to keeping in touch with relevant partners like chip set suppliers for Base station chipsets or ASIC design houses


  • You have a technical degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or a comparable major in Telecommunications
  • Min. 8+ years of professional experience in development/ product management/ technical consulting or comparable jobs
  • Technical expert knowledge about products and technologies in the field of Mobile Access technologies like 2G, 3G, 4G, microwave including Services like Installations & Commissioning, Optimization or Maintenance. Ideally work experience in Product Management, as a Hardware Design Engineer or working on design / optimization of field service processes for a Mobile Operator
  • Experience with Value Analysis and Engineering, Target Costing or Design-to-Cost methodologies know-how is preferable and first experience in Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) is of advantage
  • Project management, group facilitation and communication skills
  • Analytical, problem solving skills and an ability to be pro-active with a sense of urgency
  • Be a self-starter, a highly motivated person able to work in a fast paced environment that is continually changing
  • Fluent in English, being able to communicate in German and French is a plus
